A Taekwondo Do-Jang for Everyone!
Grandmaster Roseanne Insler (“Master Ro”) founded Ro Insler Taekwondo in February 1993 in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and within months was approached to teach an after school Taekwondo program for children and adults, and later for children with special needs, at the local Community School. Ro Insler Taekwondo quickly became a very popular program earning Master Ro a commendable reputation in the community and in the martial arts for almost 30 years.
In January of 2019, shortly after attaining the rank of 7th Dan Grandmaster, Master Ro relocated to San Antonio and worked on starting a similar Taekwondo program there. She kept the New Jersey dojang running with an assistant as the instructor. In April of 2020, after Covid-19 hit the US, Master Ro shut down all in-person classes and began teaching online private and small group lessons and eventually closed the dojang in New Jersey.
Master Ro continues to teach online lessons in Taekwondo and Self-Defense and has recently started offering private and small group in-person lessons as well as children’s birthday parties, self-defense seminars, demonstrations for fundraisers, and other martial arts related group events in the San Antonio area.
Whether online or in person, Ro Insler Taekwondo provides everything you would want from a martial arts school. Students learn how to defend themselves with the traditions of ancient and modern Taekwondo styles and a unique blend of other various self-defense styles. Through hard work, dedication and perseverance, our students truly earn their belts and move on to succeed in whatever they set their mind to.
Come join our Taekwondo family, where you'll always feel safe and at home!
Our System
Our system combines modern Taekwondo and traditional Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo, along with a unique blend of self-defense techniques derived from several other styles of martial arts.
Taekwondo, as a modern martial art, aims at developing physical fitness, fighting skills and the means to self-defense. Taekwondo, as a traditional martial art, aims at inspiring the individual in developing a proper conduct and behavior, ultimately leading one to achieve “chung myung kwon“, the total discipline and development of mind, body, and spirit.
The hard work, dedication, and commitment required to train in Taekwondo instills the need to perfect oneself and to aim towards achieving self-appointed goals. We believe that this is crucial to succeed in today’s society. The key, however, is to remain humble and appreciative, while also taking pride in your accomplishments. Training at our school provides the means to achieve this balance. The ultimate benefits are honor, integrity, humility, self-respect, self-growth, and strength of character.
Our Mission
Our mission is to guide our students towards achieving self-confidence, self-defense, and self-control, while inspiring them towards attaining respect of self, respect of others and accountability for their actions.
Our Instructors
Roseanne Insler (Master Ro)
7th Dan Grandmaster
During her martial arts career, before and after establishing Ro Insler Taekwondo in Fair Lawn, New Jersey in 1993, Grandmaster Ro earned numerous medals and trophies in local, regional, and national Taekwondo and Karate tournaments and competitions. She was also a Member and Inductee of the Garden State Games Karate Hall of Fame, as well as a GSGKI Certified Karate Referee and Judge. She often competed in the same tournaments that she refereed and judged, albeit in different divisions, of course.

She was a Member and Inductee of the Garden State Games Karate Hall of Fame, as well as a Certified Karate Referee and Judge.
One of Master Ro’s most treasured awards was earning the 1993 New Jersey Governor’s Cup Award for earning medals in a national Taekwondo tournament. That achievement qualified her to train with Olympic gold medalist coaches in a training program designed to prepare black belts for the initial stage of trials for the 1996 US Taekwondo Olympic Team. Master Ro trained for six weeks with the other hopefuls and did well enough to be accepted for the second stage of trials. However, since this happened months after establishing the Dojang, Master Ro declined the invitation for the six month long training program that would have taken her away from her family and students.
The recognition of her skills from the Olympic coaches, as well as the success of her Taekwondo program at the Community School, validated Master Ro’s decision to continue teaching. As her program grew in popularity, so did Master Ro’s reputation and standing in the martial arts community.

Mr. Jess’s skills include being a Certified Karate Referee and Judge, and the head ring coordinator for many regional Karate tournaments. Those skills enabled him to be an amazing help to our students in preparing them for many competitions, as well has helping them to train for their belt tests.
Mr. Jess always manages to make the lessons fun and exciting for the students, all the while helping them to enhance their own skills. His devotion to helping the students and Master Ro is an invaluable asset to our dojang’s ability to continue to run strong.
Beginner Taekwondo
Beginners are introduced to our unique style of Taekwondo. We combine modern Taekwondo, following the guidelines and regulations of the Kukkiwon (the governing body for Taekwondo throughout the world), along with the more traditional art of Moo Duk Kwan. Both are Korean martial arts styles, to which we have also added our own blend of self-defense techniques derived from several other styles of martial arts.
Our lessons are energetic, fun, and age appropriate. We aim to tailor-fit the structure of the training according to the students’ capabilities and limitations, teaching students as individuals rather than as a group.
We offer private and small-group lessons, both in person and via Zoom. New students may register for a one-month session to start, then are required to enroll for three-month sessions thereafter. This ensures that the students meet all necessary requirements needed for belt advancement.
Self Defense
In-person and online self-defense lessons are offered to students ages 10 to adult. We have three levels of training, Basic, Intermediate and Advanced Self-Defense. Each course is approximately 12-16 weeks in duration. Fees vary according to the number of students enrolled, the number and the length of the lessons.
Students first learn basic techniques and drills to develop speed, agility, strength, muscle memory and reflexivity. Training will include stretching and toning exercises, various blocking, kicking, and striking drills, all of which are extremely essential to prepare for and to develop self-defense. After several weeks, basic defenses and counterattacks are gradually introduced.
Once the students have completed the first course and have achieved basic self-defense, they may continue training in the Intermediate and Advanced courses. We add more advanced techniques with each subsequent course, including evasive tactics and escapes from grabs and holds, defenses against empty hand attacks and against blunt and bladed weapons. In the Advanced course we include defenses against multiple attackers and various weapons, utilizing many techniques along with the enactment of many types of possible real-life attack scenarios and situations.
